Marketplace Insurances CardioFlex Offers

 By: Terry Abrams

CardioFlex Therapy is excited to announce we are in network with three major insurances from marketplace. Ambetter, Oscar and Bright Health. We work with a wide array of insurance carriers and plan types to ensure that our community has access to the care they need to stay healthy and strong. We’ve expanded our insurance portfolio to a maximum level, while still providing the quality care that we are known for.

Ambetter from Sunshine Health is Centene Corporation‘s Health Insurance Marketplace product. Their approach is based on the core belief that quality healthcare is best delivered locally. Ambetter and Sunshine Health offers coverage with no lifetime limits, pre-existing conditions, increased coverage for kids, increased preventive care for adults and seniors, and preventive care for women.

Oscar is now the third largest for-profit national insurer in the Individual Market in the United States based on membership, and has expanded to Small Group in 2017 and Medicare Advantage in 2020. As of 2022, they have at least one health plan in 607 counties across 22 states, and expect to expand in the years ahead both geographically and with respect to insurance markets.

Bright Health gained recognition of its health plan with a prestigious URAC accreditation that is recognized in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. They have proved compliance with rigorous standards, proving our ability to adhere to the mandates of the Affordable Care Act and compete in insurance marketplaces nationwide. Bright Health demonstrates their quality and compliance with standards that align with state and federal expectations for a more value-based delivery of care.

Join CardioFlex Therapy for the fun Tough Mudder!

http://www.cardioflextherapy.com/blog/join-cardioflex-therapy-for-the-fun-tough-mudder/

Tough Mudder is a 5 or 10 mile course with obstacles designed to drag you out of your comfort zone. Tough Mudder isn’t about how fast you can cross the finish line, it’s about pushing yourself, about teamwork, camaraderie, and accomplishing something extraordinary. So challenge yourself, escape the ordinary and join our physical therapists in this fun event to benefit the American Liver Foundation. Here are the event details:
When:
October 13-14
Location:
Clear Springs Ranch
5020 Cox Rd.
Bartow FL , 33830
Time:
begins at 9:00 am
Specific time assigned to each participant
Why do we support this event? Because we want to promote education, advocacy, support services and research for the prevention, treatment and cure of liver disease. Liver disease patients are at a greater risk of Sarcopenia as it triggers it, and we develop exercise therapy plans for liver disease patients.  Physical therapists are well-positioned among the health care team to screen for sarcopenia (the degenerative loss of skeletal muscle mass – 0.5–1% loss per year after the age of 50- , quality, and strength associated with aging) in those with CKD and for the treatment of musculoskeletal conditions that may affect functional performance. Given the consequences of both low muscle mass and low bone mineral density, appropriate and timely physical therapy is important for fall risk assessment and intervention to minimize the susceptibility to bone fracture. While strength training has been studied less frequently than aerobic training for the management of secondary CKD conditions, evidence suggests that this patient population benefits from participation in strength training programs, according to the National Center for Biotechnology Information.

Join CardioFlex Therapists at Relay For Life

Cancer rehabilitation is a growing area in medicine due to the increase in cancer survivorship. More and more individuals are beating cancer because of advances in medical technology, treatment and early detection. The number of cancer survivors will continue to increase in the U.S. and there will need to be more recovery strategies. When someone is undergoing cancer treatment, physical therapy may not be the first healthcare field that comes to mind. Early cancer treatment is met with oncologists, radiologists, nurses and surgeons. Rightly so, as these healthcare practicioners are essential to the treatment and management of cancer. However, don’t forget that the role of physical therapy in cancer recovery is extremely important. Physical therapist practice for persons affected by cancer and chronic illness helps by maximizing movement and wellness across the lifespan.

For this and many other reasons CardioFlex Physical Therapists in Davie are supporting Relay For Life, the signature fundraiser for the American Cancer Society, in which volunteers give their time and effort because they believe it’s time to take action against cancer. Join us at this upcoming event to bring communities together to remember loved ones lost, honor survivors of all cancers, and raise money to help the American Cancer Society make a global impact on cancer. Physical therapy is key in cancer rehabilitation.

This event will take place on September 21st. at Quiet Waters Park in Deerfield Beach. We kick off the event by honoring everyone who’s been affected by cancer and everyone who has contributed to the success of this year’s Relay season. Later a Luminaria Ceremony, representing everyone touched by cancer with a Luminaria: each light represents a life—a life taken by cancer, a survivor of cancer, or a support for a person still fighting the disease. It’s a powerful demonstration that gives people the opportunity to grieve but also offers comfort and hope. Lastly, the closing ceremony, the time to commit to take action and help lead the fight for a world free from cancer. It’s a time to celebrate what we’ve accomplished together and a time to unify for the work that needs to be done moving forward.

September 21st. 6pm – 12am
Quiet Waters Park
401 S Powerline Rd
Deerfield Beach, FL

Physical Therapy Davie involved in Special Olympics

http://www.cardioflextherapy.com/blog/physical-therapy-davie-involved-in-special-olympics/

CardioFlex Physical Therapy in Davie is proudly supporting the Special Olympics Broward County Swimming Competition this coming August 4th  at  Nova Southeastern University, also in Davie. By working to remove obstacles, change attitudes and open minds, Special Olympics provides opportunities for its athletes to demonstrate courage, experience joy and share their gifts, skills and friendship with the world. It takes all of us — athletes, volunteers, families, sponsors, coaches, the general public — who are willing to open our minds and hearts and accept people with intellectual disabilities, to make up our Special Olympics Florida “community.”

A new report from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reveals that barely half of United States adults with disabilities take part in aerobic physical activity. The report, “Physical Activity is for Everybody,” was posted on the CDC’s Vital Signs website.
“Regular aerobic physical activity increases heart and lung function; improves daily living activities and independence; decreases chances of developing chronic diseases; and improves mental health,” the CDC reports. That’s where the emphasis that Special Olympics places on year-round sports participation pays off.

Since 1968, Special Olympics has involved people with intellectual disabilities (ID) in competitive sports, a mission that gets people off the couch and on to playing fields. Now, more than 4.4 million people young and old with ID take part in training and competitions worldwide.

Special Olympics Broward County Swimming Competition will be held at Nova Southeastern University,  at NSU pool on South 36th Street, in Davie. Time: 8:00 am – 5:00 pm. You may contact:  Michelle Leonardo, 954-262-2157 for detailed information or on how you can get involved, or call us at 954-693-9090, the physical therapists at our Outpatient Clinic will be happy to answer any questions.

Cystic Fibrosis is an inherited disease of the mucus and sweat glands (exocrine glands) affecting mostly the lungs, liver, pancreas and intestines. It causes damage to lung tissue, inflammation, and acute susceptibility to bacterial infections. There is an abnormal gene, called Cystic Fibrosis Transmembrane Conductance Regulator (CFTR), which results in the production of thick, sticky mucus which blocks the airways in the lungs resulting in frequent lung infection. The thick mucus also blocks the ducts in the pancreas which in turn blocks digestive pancreatic enzymes from reaching the small intestine and performing their normal function. The main aim of physiotherapy is to remove excessive mucoid secretions in order to improve ventilation. A person suffering from CF will require intensive chest physical therapy. This will include the following:
  • Vigorous massage to help loosen the sticky mucus
  • Postural drainage: gravity assisted positions to help drainage of secretions and also helps to increase the air movement or ventilation to different parts of the lungs.
  • Percussions: This technique is also known as chest clapping, and is used to help loosen secretions. To perform this technique a cupped hand is used to clap the chest firmly and rhythmically (over a layer of clothing or a towel).
  • Shaking and Vibrations: This technique consists of several short rhythmical squeezes to the chest while exhaling to mobilize secretions .
  • Regular assessment and monitoring is necessary during physiotherapy treatment as the patient may require supplemental oxygen, especially in advanced cystic fibrosis.
