CardioFlex Therapy Joins Oscar HealthCare

By: Terry Abrams

CardioFlex Therapy is excited to announce our joining of Oscar HealthCare insurance as of April 27th, 2021. As an In-Network provider of Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy, CardioFlex now accepts all plans from Oscar Health including Marketplace, Medicare and Medicaid insurance coverage. CardioFlex Therapy performs Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy, located in Davie, FL and in the homes of our patients.

Founded in 2012, Oscar provides consumers with access to the affordable, high-quality health care they deserve. They began by offering health plans in the Individual market because Oscar believed it was where their member-first approach would set them apart. After only seven years of selling health insurance in the Individual market, their strategy has proved out.

Oscar is now the third largest for-profit national insurer in the Individual market in the United States based on membership, and has expanded to Small Group in 2017 and Medicare Advantage in 2020. As of 2022, they have at least one health plan in 607 counties across 22 states and expect to expand in the years ahead both geographically and with great respect to insurance markets.

Oscar is tackling health care’s biggest problems by providing more for Americans with access to the affordable, high-quality health care they deserve. It starts with reorienting consumers’ expectations of their insurer, and earning something that is all too rare in the health insurance industry: member trust.

Whether you need Outpatient or Home Physical Therapy or Occupational Therapy, please call CardioFlex Therapy for PT & OT information on how we can best help you at our Outpatient Clinic in Davie at 954-693-9090.

Cystic Fibrosis is an inherited disease of the mucus and sweat glands (exocrine glands) affecting mostly the lungs, liver, pancreas and intestines. It causes damage to lung tissue, inflammation, and acute susceptibility to bacterial infections. There is an abnormal gene, called Cystic Fibrosis Transmembrane Conductance Regulator (CFTR), which results in the production of thick, sticky mucus which blocks the airways in the lungs resulting in frequent lung infection. The thick mucus also blocks the ducts in the pancreas which in turn blocks digestive pancreatic enzymes from reaching the small intestine and performing their normal function. The main aim of physiotherapy is to remove excessive mucoid secretions in order to improve ventilation. A person suffering from CF will require intensive chest physical therapy. This will include the following:
  • Vigorous massage to help loosen the sticky mucus
  • Postural drainage: gravity assisted positions to help drainage of secretions and also helps to increase the air movement or ventilation to different parts of the lungs.
  • Percussions: This technique is also known as chest clapping, and is used to help loosen secretions. To perform this technique a cupped hand is used to clap the chest firmly and rhythmically (over a layer of clothing or a towel).
  • Shaking and Vibrations: This technique consists of several short rhythmical squeezes to the chest while exhaling to mobilize secretions .
  • Regular assessment and monitoring is necessary during physiotherapy treatment as the patient may require supplemental oxygen, especially in advanced cystic fibrosis.

CardioFlex participates at Cystic Fibrosis Foundation event

CardioFlex Therapy is proud to participate and support the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation of South Florida. We see first hand how patients with this condition improve their quality of life with physical therapy at our facility. Some of the treatments we offer for Cystic Fibrosis (CF): Manual Chest Physiotherapy. Manual chest physical therapy (CPT) is the traditional airway clearance technique for cystic fibrosis (CF) patients. The removal of obstructive, thick sticky secretions is important in preventing infections and helps ease breathing. For this reason we stay involved in our community events helping our neighbors with these conditions, improving their quality of life and creating awareness.

Cystic Fibrosis is a life-threatening genetic disease that primarily affects the lungs and digestive system. An estimated 30,000 children and adults in the U.S. have the disease. The mission of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation is to cure cystic fibrosis and to provide all people with the disease the opportunity to lead full, productive lives by funding research and drug development, promoting individualized treatment and ensuring access to high-quality, specialized care.

The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation’s Fort Lauderdale’s Finest Gala honors our area’s top young professionals for their outstanding contributions to the community and their fundraising commitment to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

For more information, contact Stephanie Wilson at 954-739-5006. This Gala will take place on June 2nd at 7:00pm, at the Hilton Fort Lauderdale Marina, 1881 SE 17th Street, Fort Lauderdale, FL, 33316.

Walk with CardioFlex to Cure Arthritis

A physical therapist (PT) can help you get moving safely and effectively. Physical therapists are licensed professionals with graduate degrees and clinical experience who examine, diagnose and treat or help prevent conditions that limit the body’s ability to move and function in daily life, according to the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) and the Arthritis Foundation.

At CardioFlex physical therapy focuses on the body’s ability to engage in movement. Movement can be anything from getting in and out of chairs to climbing stairs, walking in your neighborhood, playing a sport or doing recreational activities. Over 50 million Americans have arthritis, making it the number one cause of disability in the country. That means 1 in every 5 adults will have mobility limitations. CardioFlex outpatient clinic in Davie offers Physical Therapy for Arthritis. This is why CardioFlex Therapy is proud to sponsor and support the Walk to Cure Arthritis in Broward and Miami-Dade counties on Saturday May 19th and Sunday May 20th respectively. Here’s the info you will need to join CardioFlex physical therapists in raising funds for research, resources and a cure.
