Physical Therapy Davie involved in Special Olympics

http://www.cardioflextherapy.com/blog/physical-therapy-davie-involved-in-special-olympics/

CardioFlex Physical Therapy in Davie is proudly supporting the Special Olympics Broward County Swimming Competition this coming August 4th  at  Nova Southeastern University, also in Davie. By working to remove obstacles, change attitudes and open minds, Special Olympics provides opportunities for its athletes to demonstrate courage, experience joy and share their gifts, skills and friendship with the world. It takes all of us — athletes, volunteers, families, sponsors, coaches, the general public — who are willing to open our minds and hearts and accept people with intellectual disabilities, to make up our Special Olympics Florida “community.”

A new report from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reveals that barely half of United States adults with disabilities take part in aerobic physical activity. The report, “Physical Activity is for Everybody,” was posted on the CDC’s Vital Signs website.
“Regular aerobic physical activity increases heart and lung function; improves daily living activities and independence; decreases chances of developing chronic diseases; and improves mental health,” the CDC reports. That’s where the emphasis that Special Olympics places on year-round sports participation pays off.

Since 1968, Special Olympics has involved people with intellectual disabilities (ID) in competitive sports, a mission that gets people off the couch and on to playing fields. Now, more than 4.4 million people young and old with ID take part in training and competitions worldwide.

Special Olympics Broward County Swimming Competition will be held at Nova Southeastern University,  at NSU pool on South 36th Street, in Davie. Time: 8:00 am – 5:00 pm. You may contact:  Michelle Leonardo, 954-262-2157 for detailed information or on how you can get involved, or call us at 954-693-9090, the physical therapists at our Outpatient Clinic will be happy to answer any questions.

CardioFlex Physical Therapy Patient Reviews

http://www.cardioflextherapy.com/blog/cardioflex-physical-therapy-patient-reviews/

CardioFlex Therapy Patient Reviews is our second best reward, the BEST REWARD is seeing our patients recover after visiting our Davie facility. We are honored and proud to share with you some of the patient reviews we have received, and we thank you as well.

I originally came in for therapy to relieve pain in my knee before surgery, and my experience at CardioFlex was so great that I decided to return for my post operation therapy.  I’m still currently going to therapy at their clinic in Cooper City.  The exercises are great, the care is amazing, and they make scheduling appointments convenient for me!”
-Minnette P.

CardioFlex Therapy is the best Physical Therapy company that I’ve worked with. I was extremely dizzy; my primary doctor told me that I had Vertigo, caused by position changes and quick movements. He sent me over to CardioFlex and after 8 weeks of therapy, I was 100% back to the way I was before, with zero dizziness.  I was so impressed with their professionalism, their dedication, and most of all their results. I would strongly recommend CardioFlex Therapy to anyone in need of a physical therapist.”
-Leona W.

I had really bad pain in the upper and middle part of my back recently and it would not go away. The pain was keeping me from running and working out for a few weeks. I decided to get a therapeutic massage and found CardioFlex. He did a deep sports massage and the pain completely went away. I was very surprised and impressed with his professionalism. I would strongly recommend CardioFlex Therapy and Terry to everyone. They are professional and knowledgeable and will help with your injury. If this happens again, I would go back without hesitation!”
-Maria A.

CardioFlex Therapy helped me get rid of my elbow pain. The doctor diagnosed me with tennis elbow. I knew Terry because he’d been working with my mom, and helped her a lot too. Their clinic is very professional, and they actually work with you 1 on 1. I was surprised, because most of the therapy places I had gone to were nowhere near as personalized. In 4 weeks, I was pain-free! I would definitely recommend CardioFlex Therapy and Terry Abrams (my physical therapist) to anyone, if they want to get better fast!!”
-Benny P.

I wanted to take a few minutes to thank Terry for all of the attention, follow up and excellent service that you have given me this past year.  My tennis elbow is now completely gone and my shoulder is about 95% recovered!  Also the treatments have been very helpful in alleviating my back, shoulder and neck pain that continues due to my work on computers.  But at least it helps for a bit. Also, the exercises that your staff has shown me to do at home have helped me as well.  Please thank the staff as well for all their help and thoughtfulness with me.  They are excellent! I am wishing you continued success in your new modern facility.  It is very impressive as well.”
-Eli M.

I love this place. Terry, the owner, makes you feel very comfortable and at home. It’s hard to find so many caring people in one office, this is the complete package. I love the customer service. Since my first visit they remembered my name. They also made several custom workouts for me. I’m getting better already. I would definitely recommend this place.”
-Kethnie M.

I started seeing the Physical Therapist team a couple of weeks ago and I am impressed with their professionalism and upbeat attitude.  They take the time to ensure I am reaching my goal of full recovery and have introduced me to Kinesiology Tape (I am now a big fan).”
-Bud E.

The staff is super friendly.… But the best part is they helped me tremendously! I am a hairstylist and I have major pain in my back and shoulders. After a few weeks of therapy they helped me get back to working with no pain. They showed me exactly what I needed to continue exercising the precise muscles I needed to fix my issues. Great place. Very clean. And they’re always on time…… They worked around my schedule perfectly. 5 stars for sure from me.”
-Sommer W.

The staff at Cardio Flex is very nice and know how to make you feel at ease. I am a local tennis pro and had a lot of nagging pains from constant standing, coaching, playing all day. I committed to 12 sessions and I’m happy I did that because Terry and his staff took care of me and helped me get over the small injuries and get me back to 100% and pain free.”
-Roman B.

Cystic Fibrosis is an inherited disease of the mucus and sweat glands (exocrine glands) affecting mostly the lungs, liver, pancreas and intestines. It causes damage to lung tissue, inflammation, and acute susceptibility to bacterial infections. There is an abnormal gene, called Cystic Fibrosis Transmembrane Conductance Regulator (CFTR), which results in the production of thick, sticky mucus which blocks the airways in the lungs resulting in frequent lung infection. The thick mucus also blocks the ducts in the pancreas which in turn blocks digestive pancreatic enzymes from reaching the small intestine and performing their normal function. The main aim of physiotherapy is to remove excessive mucoid secretions in order to improve ventilation. A person suffering from CF will require intensive chest physical therapy. This will include the following:
  • Vigorous massage to help loosen the sticky mucus
  • Postural drainage: gravity assisted positions to help drainage of secretions and also helps to increase the air movement or ventilation to different parts of the lungs.
  • Percussions: This technique is also known as chest clapping, and is used to help loosen secretions. To perform this technique a cupped hand is used to clap the chest firmly and rhythmically (over a layer of clothing or a towel).
  • Shaking and Vibrations: This technique consists of several short rhythmical squeezes to the chest while exhaling to mobilize secretions .
  • Regular assessment and monitoring is necessary during physiotherapy treatment as the patient may require supplemental oxygen, especially in advanced cystic fibrosis.

Physical Therapists judge at Pints for Parkinson’s

http://www.cardioflextherapy.com/blog/physical-therapists-judge-at-pints-for-parkinsons/

CardioFlex physical therapists participate in the 4th annual Pints for Parkinson’s Orlando. Come join us on July 21st to benefit Pints for PD Orlando, an annual Team Fox event to raise money for the Michael J. Fox Foundation, held at World of Beer Dr Phillips each July.
Five million people worldwide are living with Parkinson’s disease — a chronic, degenerative neurological disorder. In the United States, 60,000 new cases will be diagnosed this year alone. There is no known cure for Parkinson’s disease. But through your support of Team Fox, you can help change this. Everyone can help end Parkinson’s disease. A participant at last year’s event was interviewed:  “I’m a physical therapist, and I started noticing signs of PD in my father in 2013. After encouraging him to see a neurologist, he was officially diagnosed a few months later. I’ve also seen an increase in the number of my patients who have Parkinson’s. This gave me motivation to start a support group for people with PD and their caregivers”.
A physical therapist can help you develop an exercise routine that is right for you. Physical therapy can also help address certain symptoms of Parkinson’s Disease such as dystonia, freezing and gait.
There will be 9 custom brews competing for the title of “Foxiest Beer in Orlando”. In addition to the beer competition, they will be featuring hourly raffles, silent auction items, as well as Plinco & cornhole! There is NO COVER CHARGE and 100% of all of our proceeds will be donated to Team Fox for Parkinson’s research. Here are the details:

Physical Therapists Tips to Prevent Arthritis

http://www.cardioflextherapy.com/blog/physical-therapists-tips-to-prevent-arthritis/

Physical Therapy plays a big role in arthritis, it focuses on the body’s ability to engage in movement. Movement can be anything from getting in and out of chairs to climbing stairs, walking in your neighborhood, playing a sport or doing recreational activities. Arthritis commonly occurs when the cartilage — the slick, cushioning surface on the ends of bones — wears away, bone rubs against bone, causing pain, swelling and stiffness. Over time, joints can lose strength and pain may become chronic.

How To Prevent Arthritis? Simple Tips To Stay Healthy

You can’t always prevent Arthritis, there are many risk factors associated with it like increasing age, family history, and gender; women are more prone to Arthritis than men. You may be wondering why women are more prone to Arthritis, some factors that lead to this are :  women have less knee cartilage than men due to hormonal difference, women are also at greater risk for an autoimmune condition called Rheumatoid Arthritis, emotional problems, lack of exercise etc.

Even though we can’t prevent the occurrence of Arthritis in most cases, we can give these steps a try and, perhaps, it will help you too.

  1. Maintain a Good Body weight — Excess body weight increases the risk factor for getting Arthritis. More weight means more pressure on joints which means faster joint wear out.
  2. Eat Fish rich in Omega 3 — Certain fish are rich in omega-3 fatty acids (fish like salmonmackerelherringlake trout,   sardines and albacore tuna), a healthy polyunsaturated fat. Omega-3s have a number of health benefits — and may reduce inflammation in the body.
  3. Exercise — Exercise strengthens the muscles around the joints, which protects them from wear and tear. But avoid high impact exercises like long distance running, Soccer etc. as these have adverse effects and increases the wearing.
  4. Try to avoid any Injuries — when you injure your joint — for example, while playing sports or due to an accident — you can damage the cartilage in the knee and cause it to wear out more quickly.
  5. Take care of Joints — While doing physical actions like Lifting an Object lift with your legs instead of back this will reduce the strain on your joints. Similarly while carrying objects also try to distribute the weight.
  6. Stay away from High heels — Human foot is designed in such a way that it is distributing weight equally on entire feet. If you wear a high heels whole body weight is balanced by toes which in turn increases stress. So wear high heels only occasionally.
  7. Check your Vitamin D — Studies show that Vitamin D deficiency also results in Arthritis so include Vitamin D in your diet.
  8. Drink water — The cartilage in our joints is made up mostly of water, which is what makes it such a great cushion for the joints. When we’re dehydrated, water gets sucked out of the cartilage and it’s more easily damaged by wear and tear. So drink water.
  9. Consult your doctor — If your feel that you are having Arthritis, consult your doctor and take immediate steps to slow down the wear and tear on your joints.
At CardioFlex Therapy we can help you increase mobility and manage the pain associated with arthritis. Call us for information or to make an appointment at 954-693-9090.
