CardioFlex accepts Worker’s Compensation

CardioFlex Therapy is happy to announce that we now accept Worker’s Compensation insurance through different states across the country. CardioFlex is now in network with the following state’s Workers’ Comp insurance plans: DC, Idaho, Iowa, Massachusetts, Missouri, Nebraska, New York, North Dakota, Ohio, Rhode Island, and Washington.

If an injured worker is vacationing, traveling, or was simply hurt while in another state and comes to the South Florida area, CardioFlex can treat them for our five service types that we offer to all Workers’ Comp companies. Our service types include Physical Therapy (PT), Occupational Therapy (OT), Massage Therapy (MT), Work Conditioning (WC), and Functional Capacity Evaluations (FCE’s).

CardioFlex is also in network with all major Florida Workers’ Comp insurance companies, so by covering so many more insurance plans across the U.S., we are adding additional coverage to an expanding market. Workers’ compensation is a form of insurance providing wage replacement and medical benefits to employees injured in the course of employment in exchange for mandatory relinquishment of the employee’s right to sue their employer for the tort of negligence.

Workers’ comp insurance provides five basic benefits: Medical care: Paid for by your employer to help you recover from an injury or illness caused by work. Temporary disability benefits: Payments if you lose wages because your injury prevents you from doing your usual job while recovering. If an employee gets hurt or ill due to their job, worker’s compensation provides coverage. The costs of medical care, rehabilitation treatments and lost wages are covered by this insurance if the injury is due to the employment. The average total cost per workers’ compensation claim in Florida has grown moderately in recent years, according to a recent study by the Workers Compensation Research Institute (WCRI). All of the key components of total costs per claim experienced moderate increases from 2011 to 2016 in Florida.

For Worker’s Comp patients, CardioFlex also offers the flexibility of coming to our Outpatient Clinic in Davie, FL, or for us to send our Home Therapists to the homes of our patients.

CardioFlex participates at Cystic Fibrosis Foundation event

CardioFlex Therapy is proud to participate and support the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation of South Florida. We see first hand how patients with this condition improve their quality of life with physical therapy at our facility. Some of the treatments we offer for Cystic Fibrosis (CF): Manual Chest Physiotherapy. Manual chest physical therapy (CPT) is the traditional airway clearance technique for cystic fibrosis (CF) patients. The removal of obstructive, thick sticky secretions is important in preventing infections and helps ease breathing. For this reason we stay involved in our community events helping our neighbors with these conditions, improving their quality of life and creating awareness.

Cystic Fibrosis is a life-threatening genetic disease that primarily affects the lungs and digestive system. An estimated 30,000 children and adults in the U.S. have the disease. The mission of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation is to cure cystic fibrosis and to provide all people with the disease the opportunity to lead full, productive lives by funding research and drug development, promoting individualized treatment and ensuring access to high-quality, specialized care.

The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation’s Fort Lauderdale’s Finest Gala honors our area’s top young professionals for their outstanding contributions to the community and their fundraising commitment to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

For more information, contact Stephanie Wilson at 954-739-5006. This Gala will take place on June 2nd at 7:00pm, at the Hilton Fort Lauderdale Marina, 1881 SE 17th Street, Fort Lauderdale, FL, 33316.

Walk with CardioFlex to Cure Arthritis

A physical therapist (PT) can help you get moving safely and effectively. Physical therapists are licensed professionals with graduate degrees and clinical experience who examine, diagnose and treat or help prevent conditions that limit the body’s ability to move and function in daily life, according to the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) and the Arthritis Foundation.

At CardioFlex physical therapy focuses on the body’s ability to engage in movement. Movement can be anything from getting in and out of chairs to climbing stairs, walking in your neighborhood, playing a sport or doing recreational activities. Over 50 million Americans have arthritis, making it the number one cause of disability in the country. That means 1 in every 5 adults will have mobility limitations. CardioFlex outpatient clinic in Davie offers Physical Therapy for Arthritis. This is why CardioFlex Therapy is proud to sponsor and support the Walk to Cure Arthritis in Broward and Miami-Dade counties on Saturday May 19th and Sunday May 20th respectively. Here’s the info you will need to join CardioFlex physical therapists in raising funds for research, resources and a cure.

Bursitis – a Secondary Diagnosis & Treatment

CardioFlex Therapy in Davie treats patients with Bursitis.

Most people think of bursitis as a primary condition, because they have heard their friends and family complaining of “bursitis pain”. Although it could be a primary problem, bursitis rarely stands alone as a primary diagnosis. Instead, think of bursitis as a secondary issue, as other orthopedic conditions cause the bursitis itself. In fact, oftentimes there are several problems in a joint that all combine to cause the bursitis. To understand exactly what bursitis is, we have to analyze how it begins.

Bursitis is named from an inflammation of the bursae sacs, which are small fluid-filled sacs surrounding joints in the body. The larger joints are more prone to bursitis, like the hips, shoulders, elbows, knees, etc. However, the most common joints in the body that are susceptible to bursitis are the shoulders and hips, because they are the worst lever systems in the body and therefore more prone to injury.

Image of anatomy showing the bursitis
Any kind of joint breakdown, arthritis, tendonitis, etc. will cause excess fluid to accumulate in the joint, which then drains into the bursae sacs around that particular joint. This excess fluid in each bursae sac causes swelling, inflammation, and edema of the bursae sac called bursitis. So, because this process usually happens in this order, then a diagnosis of bursitis is almost never a primary diagnosis. And the more injuries a person has around a joint, the more likely that they are to get bursitis whenever that joint is overloaded from a sport, activity, or daily life.

Since we know that bursitis is caused by other conditions and injuries, then the question then becomes how to treat it. Well, the first thing that we do here at CardioFlex Therapy, is to diagnose the underlying conditions that are actually causing the bursitis, like the tendonitis, arthritis, cartilage breakdown, ligament injuries, tendon injuries, muscle strains, soft tissue tears, joint injuries, etc. Then, we will treat the underlying conditions and the bursitis simultaneously to get the best result possible.

For the underlying conditions, Physical Therapy & Occupational Therapy is performed by utilizing modalities, progressive strengthening exercises, functional movements, and sport-specific rehab. This will help the patient to get back to their former lever of function, and hopefully beyond. For the bursitis, we use modalities to decrease the inflammation such as: Ice, Moist Heat, Ultrasound, Electrical Stimulation, Cold Laser, Iontophoresis, Anodyne Therapy, Massage Therapy, and Kinesiotaping.

At CardioFlex Therapy, we’ve gotten great results from treating patients with bursitis.  A large part of our success has been in our diagnosis of not only the bursitis, but also the underlying injuries and conditions that are causing it.
